i then had to go to mexico for work on june 10th and returned june 21st.  what an amazing time.  this trip was like no other.  i mean each trip i take for work is so different from the others.  sydney, for example, was just what i needed at that time.  i needed to get away from my life.  i needed to see something new, do something totally unlike me.  this trip, mexico, it was to reassure me that this is what i am suppose to be doing right now.  seeing the world.  experiencing life.  i saw some of the most beautiful places this trip.  we went to taxco (tas-sko) mexico.  a town built into a side of a mountain, a big mountain, where the main industry is silver.  i bought SO much there.  all unique pieces, stuff that if imported into the US, would cost a fortune.  i was also able to see a couple of pyramids, and the cities built with them.  unbelievable.  as i stood atop the sun pyramid, climbed all 200+ steps to get to the top, i wanted to time travel, to witness how it was.  these were simply amazing!

we cannot forget the team building that was done on a wednesday night!

kids + cuteness February 9, 2008

Filed under: Mood, People — whattheharry @ 10:56 am

i just realized that in most of my posts about my nieces and nephews, they are always cute.  i must sound VERY biased.

let me tell you i am not.  i think ALL kids are cute.  ALL.  i know of one particular cutie who belongs to the L word person who is freaking adorable with his big blue eyes.  then there is my girlfriend christi and her two kids – the younger one with the longest eyelashes ever!  and her older one says the most unique things.  her observations floor me.

then there is another particular friend who i work with and she has the cutest little girl.  wise little one.  its almost like she is 18 stuck in a 6 year old body.

the list can go on and on …

if i stare at a child is because i am just amazed (not because i am some freak!).  simply amazed at how they think, what they say or do.  i am amazed at what their little brains are doing.

if you are having a bad day, spend some time with a child – unless they are your own and they are annoying you at that moment.  it amazes me (what a surprise!) how they can quickly change your mood and help you forget whatever it was you were upset about.

i am hoping to catch up with megan today.  i talked to her last night – too funny!  sara has a big dance tonight, cant wait to see what she looks like all dressed up!

i am happy.

was driving to kohl’s this afternoon and passed up the great sleding hill in the way south end of naperville.  since i have this great new camera bag, i am able to carry the thing everywhere i go and have the opportunity to capture times like these.  i have no idea who the kids are, and felt really funny taking pictures of them when i dont know them.  hence the backside view.  however, love these two shots.

i know whats wrong with me January 23, 2008

Filed under: People — whattheharry @ 10:29 pm

apparently i am ‘too analytical and too independent’ and i am a ‘challenge for me and i have to deal with it’.    (me=guy who is speaking)

remember when i said i was going for coffee / lunch / whathaveyou with this guy dan from work.  well apparently, last wednesday he felt it was time to take the relationship to the next level and gave ol’girl here a booty call.  yes, i said a bootay-call!

some nerve, ey?

so friday, he decides to call me at 8:30p and we talk.  and its during this conversation that the above statements came about.  at the time it was questionable of his blood alcohol content, but after the converstaion died, and he proceeded to ask me what i had for dinner for the 3rd time, i knew.  i knew he had more than just one drink.  enough for him to slur his words.  and fall off the couch.

the conversation when discussing the problems he has with me, yes those are his exact words, he also said that i was not like any of his previous girlfriends.  that i had intelligence.

at that point, i interjected and said "what time is it?"  he slurs, "eleven thirty".  i say, "holy crap! i need to go."  thankfully it was only 10:30 and he was just drunk and couldnt see the clock.  = ) i got back an hour of my life!

so now i wake up knowing exactly what my problems are and how they are keeping me from having a boyfriend, husband or atleast a half way decent relationship.

fab.

ps. cleaning up pictures tonight.  found this one of my brother & our niece.  she is such a cutie.

annoyed December 7, 2007

Filed under: People — whattheharry @ 10:34 pm

totally annoyed tonight.  i had my annual eye exam / visit today.  while waiting for the doctor in the waiting room, i am sitting next to a woman with a newborn and a probably 5 yr old.  out comes her daughter from her exam, and is shown trays of glasses that were for public aid recipients.

public aid.  i have no problem with assisting the poor or less advantaged.  however when the less advantaged is sitting in a doctors office wearing brand new k-swiss sneakers, three kids, one of them a baby, and cell phone, i have a bit of a problem with that.

one, if you can afford k-swiss sneakers on public aid, there is something wrong with our government.  two, if you are on public aid, how is having another child helping your situation?  and lastly, i am really annoyed that my tax dollars are paying for that woman to have children she cant afford.  am i paying for her christmas too?

i know several people who cant have children, or have tried for so long have just given up.  these people should be the ones having the children, not the women on public aid.

whats wrong with this picture?

the one time i dont bring my camera with me to an event i get screwed.  on saturday night i attended a catholic charities fundraiser.  good cause.  they were raising money to construct an apartment building for homeless women & children they found living in the forest preserves.  did not think twice to put a little extra in the silent auction.  its a sad world when people have to live like that.

so all these catholics in one room, together, socializing, drinking, having some fun.  in the kitchen (we were in the basement of a church) were three nuns.  cooking, cleaning, supporting the event.  the entertainment, kieran conway, comedian called them out to the dance floor and he made them dance.  two songs of the sisters dancing and smiling and having a good time.  DAMN!  where was my camera when i needed it?  i saw a jay leno moment right before my eyes!!

message here today … if you think you have it bad or having a bad day or a couple of eh days, think about the women who were living in the forest preserves.  they had it worse.

how disturbing is this…walking out of the rec center today, where i work out, and as usual, some community/school event was happening.  this one in particular was the romeoville sparklers…a dance group.  here’s the disturbing part.  i was in the parking lot, walking towards my car and i see two girls dressed in their uniforms.  then i see a stroller with a baby.  then i see one of the girls caring for the baby as if it were hers.

please, oh please, let it be a younger sibling.
